Who Deserves NBA Finals MVP?

Posted by Jay Sanin on 6/19/2016 3:22:11 AM

The NBA Finals will come to an end after Sunday's game seven, after the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers traded blows for the first six. The series is still up in the air, so there are endless possibilities as far as who will win the NBA Finals most valuable player award. And since there are endless possibilities, it's important to analyze who will it depending on which team claims victory in Sunday's game seven.

Golden State Warriors – Klay Thompson

With the odds to win NBA Finals MVP changing drastically after each game, consistency should be rewarded in this case. The Warriors haven't had one player separate themselves as the clear best through this series, but Klay Thompson has been by far the most consistent player for them during this series out of all the players to appear in every game during the Finals.

It could also be argued that LeBron James could take it if the Warriors win the series, because he has been that good over the final couple of games of the series, but that is dependent on how he plays in game seven, as are all of these speculative choices.

Cleveland Cavaliers – LeBron James

An odds calculator would have told you that you stood to win a lot of money if you backed the Cleveland Cavaliers to win the NBA Finals once they fell behind two games to none. The reason for Cleveland's comeback has been LeBron James, who may deserve the Finals MVP award even if the Cavaliers fail to win the series.

James, faced with elimination twice already with his team in this series, has averaged 41 points per game over games five and six, absolutely dominating everyone tasked with guarding him during that time period. James has a chance to derail the greatest season in NBA history while simultaneously taking his place as one of the greatest players of all time, if not the greatest.

There are massive stakes for everyone involved in game seven of these NBA Finals, but nobody has as much to gain as James, whose legacy stands to move into truly legendary territory if he can deliver another huge performance in a game seven win.
