Counting Stars in the NBA

Posted by Webster Washington on 5/25/2015 12:48:57 AM

A showdown of superstars is what the NBA and its followers like, and appears that they’ll get it for the title series. Stephen Curry is taking on James Harden for the Western Conference title, and LeBron James seems to have control of Atlanta in the east. That’s just fine. An NBA title matchup between King James and either Curry or Harden would be great. It doesn’t matter if it is Curry or Harden, just as long as marquee guys are in it.

About the worst thing that could happen would be for Atlanta to screw things up and somehow defeat LeBron. That would bring team play into the formula, and NBA folks frown on that team stuff.

Here’s what an NBA team does: facilitate the superstar. Oh yes, NBA fans will tell you that often the star is the facilitator. Funny thing is, the star always ends up with 30 plus points while the rest of the team members are happy to reach double figures. It becomes even more evident when the superstar is having a bad game. The rest of the team runs in panicky circles and loses the game. Then afterwards, everyone says the reason the TEAM lost is that the SUPERSTAR didn't score his 30.

The San Antonio Spurs frustrated the NBA crowd for years by winning games and titles playing as a team. They scored on layups and bank shots, made good passes, and their best player was a guy nicknamed “The Big Fundamental.” Uuuughh. NBA fans outside of San Antonio jumped for joy when slammin’, jammin’ Blake Griffin rolled the Spurs out of the way this season.

So King James should welcome all comers in a championship showdown at your local television. He’ll take you on with two stars tied behind his back. Turn the big show on, long live the king, and go team – go somewhere.
