Are Toronto Raptors Choking?
The Toronto Raptors nearly blew their first round series against the Indiana Pacers, but managed to hold on by the skin of their teeth. In the second round, they find themselves in danger again, this time against the Miami Heat. Due to some poor shooting from their two star players, there is no guarantee that the Raptors will continue to advance despite being the number two seed in the Eastern Conference. So what is wrong with the Raptors?
Poor Performances From Stars
Kyle Lowry and DeMar DeRozan are both all-star players for the Toronto Raptors, who are supposed to shift the odds in their team's favor every time they step on the floor. But their shooting has been atrocious throughout the playoffs so far, and has given teams inferior to the Raptors a chance to not only hang around in each series against them, but given them a chance to win those series as well.
Lowry and DeRozan have been solid at shooting both inside the paint and on the perimeter all season long, but both have been struggling to find their shot now that the playoffs have rolled around. If Toronto wants to advance past the Heat and have any chance to advance past the Cleveland Cavaliers should they reach the Eastern Conference Finals, those two players will need to step up their games in a big way.
Too Focused on Defense
Toronto's roster is too focused on defense for them to be a truly great team. Big men Jonas Valenciunas and Bismack Biyombo are both solid defenders, but lack skills on the offensive end of the floor, which severely limits the team's ability to be dangerous with all five of their players. This is especially true in crunch time, when all five players on the floor need to be able to score at any given time when plays may break down late in the shot clock.
If you're looking to do some live betting on the Raptors/Heat series, the Raptors still have home court advantage working in their favor, but the team needs to play better if that is going to mean anything going forward.
